Proctored exams require students to take an examination in a controlled location under the supervision of a proctor, who monitors students during the exam period. A proctored exam permits instructors to limit student access to certain materials such as books, notes, and the Internet and to verify the identity of the individual taking the exam. Some online courses may require up to two proctored exams.

The Online Testing Center is located in the Emerging Technology Building, Room 133. Hours of operation are Monday - Friday 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. Please contact the Online Testing Center Coordinator for any additional assistance.  Following are the WKCTC student guidelines for the online testing center.

Required Advanced Appointment

Students are to make one appointment for each proctored exam (one appointment per course exam). Students abusing this privilege may have appointments canceled or may be denied access to the Online Testing Center. Please follow the instructions given below.

  • All appointments are now scheduled online.
  • Appointments must be scheduled three days (72 hours) in advance of the time you want to take your exam.
  • Please have the following information available when you schedule your appointment:
    • Name
    • Address
    • Phone number
    • Instructor's name
    • Course name, number, and section (Example: CIT 105 B5Z4)

Appointments can be changed or rescheduled using the online system.  The system requires changes to be made online at least 72 hours in advance.  Once an appointment has been cancelled the next available rescheduling slot will be available 72 hours from the cancellation time. We understand that situations arise in which you must cancel your appointment.  If cancellations are made with less than 72 hours' notice, we are unable to offer that time slot to other students.  For this reason, cancellations and changes can only be made 72 hours in advance.  Students who are unable to cancel within the 72 hour period will be considered a "No Show".  "No Show" students should reschedule for the next available day and time, but will not be tested until permission has been sent from the instructor to the Testing Center Coordinator.

Late Appointments

Students arriving late (15 minutes or more) for a testing appointment may not be tested during the scheduled time period.  It is the right of the Director of the Online Testing Center to reschedule the student's appointment.

Testing Material

It is the student's responsibility to:

  • Check with the instructor prior to the exam for testing materials allowed during the exam. (i.e. textbook, calculator)

  • Have an active login and password for Blackboard and other software. The Online Testing Center is not responsible for providing items.

  • Provide proper form of photo Identification. (i.e. drivers license, school I.D., state issued I.D.)

  • Have a printed class schedule and/or appointment confirmation listing class and instructor information.

Academic Dishonesty

Students caught cheating on an exam will be approached by the proctor and informed of the academic dishonesty violation.  Students must adhere to the KCTCS Code of Student Conduct 2.3.

Cell Phone and Children

No cell phones or children are allowed in the Online Testing Center.  The Online Testing Center is to maintain a controlled environment for those completing proctored exams.

The Online Testing Center is free for all KCTCS students. A fee is charged for testing for non-KCTCS institution who require students to utilize the Online Testing Center. Students who are requesting a proctored exam for a non-KCTCS institution should print this form to make payment. The fee for non-KCTCS testing is $25.00. An additional fee of $5.00 may be charged for shipping and handling as well.

Students are required to prove their identity when reporting for a proctored exam, but students are not assessed any fees for taking an exam for a KCTCS course or for verification of identity. Student who are not located near a KCTCS campus should work with the instructor early in the term to identify an acceptable site for taking a proctored exam. It will be the responsibility of the student to pay any fees associated with taking a KCTCS course exam at a non-KCTCS location.
