The center provides COMPASS placement testing for students prior to enrolling in classes at West Kentucky Community and Technical College as well as testing for students enrolling in other colleges and universities.  COMPASS is a computerized adaptive testing system that helps place students into appropriate mathematics, reading, and writing classes. Students who score less than 20 in Reading, less than 18 in English or less than 19 in Math are required to take the COMPASS test.
  • Cost:  There is no fee for first-time test takers enrolling at West Kentucky Community and Technical College. The re-testing fee is $7.00 per section or $20.00 for all three sections. Students testing for an outside college or university either first-time or retesting will pay $20.00 per session regardless of the number of sections taken. Pay in the Business Office, room 127 of the Anderson Technical Building and bring the receipt to the Assessment Center at the time of testing.

Bring a photo ID to the test. All first-time examinees will be required to attend an exam orientation session prior to testing.  Sessions will be held each hour on the half hour. Sessions are available at 8:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m.,
    10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 1:30 p.m.

COMPASS placement scores adopted by KCTCS for writing, reading, and mathematics will be used to place students in appropriate courses.  Students will be given a copy of their COMPASS report after testing and will meet with an assessment counselor and may make an appointment to see an advisor in the Advising Center, Anderson Technical Building, Room 106.

Students with ACT sub-scores of 18 or higher in English, 20 or higher in Reading, or 19 in math should contact the Advising Center at 270-534-3408 to schedule an appointment with an academic advisor.  Copies of the ACT report must be submitted to the Records Office,  Anderson Technical Building, Room 107.
