Swine Influenza Information

West Kentucky Community & Technical College wants to ensure the college community that we are closely monitoring the swine flu outbreak in the United States. The World Health Organization no longer considers the swine flu as a world wide pandemic. WKCTC will continue to take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the seasonal influenza virus.

Per our WKCTC Pandemic Influenza Plan, there will be daily disinfection of shared areas. This will entail disinfection of spaces such as: classroom desk tops, computer labs, bathrooms, vending areas, and the common areas where students tend to gather.

Also a daily cleaning of handrails, door knobs/handles, panic bars, etc. will occur.

There are some simple actions you can take to help prevent contacting the virus:

Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs are spread that way.
Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
If you get sick, the Centers for Disease Control recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
