Student Organizations and Clubs

Student organizations at West Kentucky Community and Technical College provide opportunities for students to learn leadership and teamwork skills as well as to demonstrate skills learned in the classroom at local, state, and national competitions.

African-American Student Alliance

The African-American Student Alliance  provides free membership to any WKCTC student and is designed to meet the needs of students by:

  • Providing students with vital college information.
  • Providing an atmosphere for student interaction.
  • Providing an opportunity for students to become part of community-sponsored activities.
  • Providing students with support to ensure academic retention and success.

Baptist Campus Ministry

The Baptist Campus Ministry (BCM) is a Christian organization providing opportunities for Christian growth and fellowship. The BCM is not a club that requires a membership to attend. We are sponsored by the West Union Baptist Association, however, you do not have to be Baptist to attend. We invite everyone to be involved! Each week consists of worship, bible study, and fellowship. You will also have the opportunity to do community service, attend state-wide BCM conferences, participate in retreats, go on mission trips, and serve alongside Murray State University’s BCM.

Mission

To help students develop leadership and good citizenship skills by getting involved in college and community activities. Avenues of community involvement include participation in political and civic activities, ways of making a difference.

Meeting Schedule

The club normally meets twice a month, usually every other Friday, at 12:00 Noon. Depending on room availability, club meetings are either in Room 113 in Waller Science Hall or in the Club Room located in the student center. Snacks and drinks are provided during club meetings.

Who can Join

Anyone attending WKCTC can join the club. Faculty and staff are encouraged to join as club advisors or supporters.

Community Chorus


The WKCTC Community Chorus is a non-audition performing group. We are open to anyone with a passion for choral singing. Every fall we give a seasonal concert featuring music from the classic choral repertoire and outstanding popular choral arrangements appropriate for the time of year. In the spring we present our Pops concert which features musical excerpts from a hit Broadway show and other popular choral works. There is no audition, just a desire to sing and the ability to attend rehearsals on Tuesday nights from 7:00-9:00 PM. If you wish to join us or simply want to know more contact Norman F. Concept Zero

Concept Zero is a combination environmental organization and outdoor club that keeps students informed about environmental issues and actually gets them out into the woods. Field trips are planned and scheduled by the students. Speakers and programs will be announced.

Phi Beta Lambda is a professional organization for post-secondary students with an interest in business. This organization is the college equivalent and sister organization of the Future Business Leaders of America. Members enjoy an array of social, professional, and community activities.

Phi Theta Kappa

Members of Phi Theta Kappa Phi Theta Kappa is the largest and the most prestigious international honor society serving two-year colleges around the world. Membership is based primarily upon academic achievement. Membership in Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society will open new doors for your academic journey. The organization offers a myriad of opportunities for scholarships, intellectual enrichment and personal development through programs based on Phi Theta Kappa's four hallmarks of Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Fellowship.

Science Club

The WKCTC Science Club aims to provide a community for students interested in science.

Students attend seminars and local professional meetings, perform outreach to schools, obtain information on career opportunities and participate in student research projects. Meetings are held in Waller Hall and are open to all students, faculty and staff.

Spanish Culture Club

Mission

The Spanish Culture Club is composed of students who share an interest in learning about the Spanish language and the many cultures of the Spanish speaking world.  The purpose of the club is to raise awareness and enrich students’ knowledge of the diversity in culture and language.

Meeting Schedule

The club normally meets twice a month, usually every other Thursday, at 12:30 in the club room of the Student Center.    Typical Hispanic foods and drinks are often served.

Who Can Join

Anyone interested in Hispanic language and culture.   It is not necessary to speak the language.   Hispanic students are encouraged to join the club to truly share and learn together.

Student Government

The West Kentucky Community and Technical College Student Government Association helps facilitate the operation of student activities and shall be the liaison between the student body and the administration.  Meetings are open to all students.

The WKCTC Student Government Association membership shall be composed of two representatives from each recognized student organization. Officers of SGA shall be the President, Vice President and Secretary.

Writer's Club

The campus Writers’ Group welcomes all students, faculty, staff, and community members interested in writing and reading creative pieces. Members gather to share original poems, short stories, longer works of fiction, and creative non-fiction, in an environment of enthusiasm and constructive criticism to support each other throughout the writing process.

Other activities of the Writers’ Group include a spring writing contest for all West Kentucky Community and Technical College students. Students in the Writers’ Group can also participate in the creation and editing of the College’s new literary arts journal, Exit 7, set to be released in the spring of 2011. In addition, Writers’ Group members are kept informed of the many various literary events occurring on campus and throughout the greater community.

The Writers' Group meets on alternating Tuesday afternoons in the Library Conference Room from 3:30 – 4:30. Anyone interested in joining the Writers’ Group, or being notified via email of upcoming literary events, should contact Britton Shurley or Pat Holler.
