Computer Aided Drafting and Design
3D Modeling, the new design movement.
Do you have an idea that you want to produce? Are you meticulous and detail oriented? Then you have the right skills to be a design drafter. Drafting is a graphic language used by industry to communicate ideas and plans from the creative design stage through production. A computer aided drafter and designer is a technical specialist with broad-based skills for mechanical, parametric modeling, civil, architectural (and Building Information Modeling) and manufacturing fields. The drafter is a skilled technician with a thorough understanding of the graphic language and is an indispensable contributor to the engineering design team.
Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD)utilizes two- and three-dimensional modeling with conventional methods of graphic communication to solve basic design-related problems. Students will be exposed to both theory and laboratory projects as they learn to create a variety of drawings. Specific skills taught include, but are not limited to: lettering, geometric construction, orthographic projections, dimensioning and tolerancing, technical processes, and various discipline drawings and media.
The computer aided drafting curriculum is utilizing the newest in rapid prototyping technology to fabricate material objects directly from CAD solid models. The rapid prototype technology/process is a tool: an alternative solution to a spectrum of design and manufacturing challenges. The CADD program will prepare you to design 3D models utilizing various computer software programs and construct physical prototype models.
Program Standing: Progression in the Computer Aided Drafting and Design program is contingent upon achievement of a grade of C or greater in each technical and mathematics course with maintenance of a 2.0 cumulative grade point average or above (on a 4 scale). Check out our flyer.
Students can earn the Associate in Applied Science in General Occupational/Technical Studies. This degree provides flexible alternatives for meeting student and employer needs. Credit earned through certificate and diploma program completion is applicable toward the Applied Science degree in General Occupational/Technical Studies degree when consistent with the objectives of the students individual plan of study.

Length of Program
Students seeking a diploma can complete their plan of study in four semesters by completing a total of 45 credit hours of technical and general education courses. Certificates embedded within the diploma may be awarded as credential requirements are met. An Associate in Applied Science in General Occupational/Technical Studies (AAS-GOTS) degree can be completed by meeting the diploma requirements and completing additional general education requirements for a total of 60-76 credit hours. Day classes and online courses are offered during two 16week semesters (August-December and January- May) each academic year. High school students that have participated in Project Lead the Way programs would be able to challenge courses within this program.
