2011 Scholarship Auction Fundraiser

Local businessman Dale Perry takes bids as a spotter at the 2011 Scholarship Auction. The 2011 Scholarship Auction raised $96,544 for the scholarship program at West Kentucky Community and Technical College on Tuesday, September 27. The annual event was held at the Julian Carroll Convention Center in downtown Paducah and hosted 350 guests.

"The auction is vital to the colleges scholarship program, said Kay Travis, executive director of Paducah Junior College Inc., the foundation of WKCTC. Without the support of our donors, we simply wouldn't be able to provide near as many scholarships to our students each year.

Donors also had a new way to support scholarships this year with the new Power of One initiative. Donors were encouraged to donate to the Power of One whether it was to buy one book, one class, one semester, or one year of tuition every donor made a difference in the lives of our students, said WKCTC president Barbara Veazey. Veazey said the auction is a prime example of the community partnerships that have made WKCTC one of the top 10 community colleges in the nation.

The auction was organized by PJC, Inc. Local businessmen, John D. Williams, and Louis Michelson, conducted the live auction with help of Dale Perry and Larry Stovesand as audience spotters.
