Conference-Prepare for Job Market

Preparing the community to enter the job market is the goal for the Operation Workforce conference Wednesday, May 9, at West Kentucky Community and Technical Colleges Skilled Craft Training Center in Hickory.

The event from 10:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m. is free and open to the public, especially individuals who are currently underemployed or unemployed. Operation Workforce will inform participants of the various opportunities in both education and workforce training that can help to improve their skill level or how to obtain new skill sets. Participants will learn about current industry employment standards and skills expectations of high wage and high-skill occupations.

The event will focus on following industry areas:

  • Manufacturing
  • Healthcare
  • Education

Industry representatives will speak about the current employment environment, followed by breakout sessions providing small group interaction and information on assessments.

WorkKeys assessments will be available for the areas of applied technology, applied mathematics, locating information, and reading for information. These assessments help individuals identify skill enhancement pathways to become more competitive in the job market.

The first 50 individuals to arrive at the conference will obtain four practice WorkKeys assessments booklets at no charge. Individuals will be able to view the skill assessments that are also offered on site at the assessment center on the WKCTC main campus. The skills are valuable for occupations, skilled or professional, at any level of education.

Refreshments and giveaways will be available throughout the event. Preregistration is encouraged. To register, please contact Nancy Draffen at the Skilled Craft Training Center 270-856-2400.
