Current Version of GED Test to Expire

Kentucky Adult Education has announced that the current version of the GED test will expire at the end of 2013. The current version will be replaced with the new 2014 GED test on January 2, 2014.

People who have taken the current 2002 Series GED test, but have not passed all five parts, have only until December 18, 2013 to take the current test. If they do not pass all five parts by December 16, 2013, they will need to start over again in 2014 with the new GED test.

The GED test opens doors to the future by helping adults prepare for college and job training and get better jobs, said Janet Slayden, WKCTC Graves County Adult Education manager. We want to be sure everyone is aware of this deadline. We strongly encourage GED test-takers to act now to finish and pass before the current test expires.

The new test will continue to be a measure of high school equivalency, but will feature more college-ready material, like Algebra II-level math. It will measure career- and college-readiness skills - a new, additional endorsement that can be added to a test-takers credential.
The current test cost is $60 and can be taken across the state in paper and pencil form as well as on computer. When the change takes effect, the cost will increase to $120 and only be offered as a computer-based test. Students will have to go to a test site to take the exam.
Graves County Adult Education offers free classes to help adults earn their GED. To help fit the busy schedules of the adult population, three-week FAST TRACK classes are scheduled at the Mayfield/Graves Co. Library beginning October 7, 2013. Anyone interested in enrolling in the FAST TRACK program must first meet eligibility requirements.
