Free Workshops at WKCTC to Assist in Bypassing Remedial Classes

PADUCAH, KY (May 26, 2016) West Kentucky Community and Technical College can help individuals enhance their reading, writing and mathematics skills with a series of free summer workshops.

WKCTCs Adult Learning Center will host two sessions of the Maximize Your Academic Potential (MAP) workshop series Monday Thursday, June 6 June 30 and July 5 28 from 8:30 a.m. noon. The workshops and mandatory orientations will be held both at WKCTCs Anderson Technical Building in Paducah and the colleges Skilled Craft Training Center in Hickory.

These workshops can help individuals improve their skills in reading, writing and math, as well as raise their college course placement scores, said Samantha Williams, program director for WKCTC Adult Learning Centers. This provides students with an opportunity to bypass remedial courses and become better students overall, which can help them save time and money, said Williams.

Participants must complete the TABE pretest, a diagnostic test to determine skill levels in reading, writing and math, on or before June 2 for the June workshops and on or before June 30 for July workshops. Mandatory orientations for the workshops will be held from 8:30 a.m. noon June 6 and July 5.

Space is limited. For more information on McCracken County workshops call (270) 534-3451 and for Graves County workshops call (270) 856-2423.
