Poetry Reading Sponsored by Focus on ReadingPaducah residents Amelia Martens and Britton Shurley will share their poetry during a presentation October 28 at West Kentucky Community and Technical College. The free poetry reading begins at 2:00 pm in the WKCTC Matheson Library. Martens and Shurley, both WKCTC English instructors, received the Emerging Artist Award of $1000 each for demonstrating a high level of excellence and creativity in their work. Martens and Shurley are married and are expecting their first child.
WKCTC is so fortunate to have two talented and accomplished poets to serve as writing teachers and mentors to our students, said WKCTC English Department Coordinator Kim Russell. Britton and Amelia are dedicated to working with our students and providing them opportunities to develop and showcase their writing talents. And it's exciting to have the chance to honor Britton and Amelia for their accomplishments in their own writing careers.
