Skilled Craft Training Center Named Industry of the Month

Five years after enrolling its first 11 students, West Kentucky Community and Technical College's Skilled Craft Training Center (SCTC) in Hickory was recognized as the city of Mayfield's Industry of the Month.

IndustryMillikenMayfield Mayor Teresa Cantrellpresented a sign and certificate to Stephanie Milliken, dean of applied technologies at WKCTC,during a Mayfield City Commission meeting June 9. "I do herebyexpress the appreciation of the administration of the city of Mayfield for your continued commitment for doing business in Mayfield and Graves County," said Cantrell.

The Skilled Craft Training Center,an extension campus of WKCTC,provides academic programs in automotive technology, welding technology, heating and air technology, nurse assisting, and adult agriculture.General education classes are provided as needed and are program specific. SCTC is also home to the Graves County Adult Learning Center.

Since opening in 2009,SCTCs enrollment has grown to more than 4,000, with an upduplicated headcount of 1,277. The center has 16 employees.

The Heating and Air Conditioning Program has pioneered advanced certification in geo-thermal and solar power.An Energy Audit Simulator located at SCTC provides numerous opportunities at all educational levels for energy conservation and production awareness and a hands-on environment for college students.The center's welding lab has been expanded to a two-instructor program now capable of offering all courses that lead to a welding certification and diploma.WKCTC's Automotive Program located at the center was recently accredited by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) offering an industry recognized environment of instructional excellence.
