The Art of Racing in the Rain Essay Contest

Get paid to read and write! WKCTC will host an essay contest for students, WKCTC faculty and staff, and the general public based on the novel, The Art of Racing in the Rain. This novel, by Garth Stein, is the Colleges official 2009-2010 reading selection.

Winners in each of the two categories (WKCTC students and Public) will receive a $100 Barnes and Noble gift card. During this academic year there will be a number of events and activities that relate to the novel, including a reading and book signing by local author Patience Renzulli, a Darling Dog Photography Contest, a Doggone Good Poetry Contest, and an appearance by author Garth Stein himself.

Everyone is invited to read the novel, which is available in our campus bookstore, our campus library, and local bookstores. The novel has been in the top five of the New York Times Bestsellers List and has received a great number of excellent reviews. For more information on the novel itself, please visit

Those wishing to enter the contest must write an essay on one of the approved topics and follow the official rules and formatting guidelines. The forms are available below and can also be obtained from Kim Russells office (Student Center Room #136) or from the Circulation Desk in the Matheson Library. Essays will be accepted from September 21, 2009 until October 23, 2009 at noon. Please contact Kim Russell for more information.
