WKCTC Sonography Program Receives New Equipment

A donation of an ultrasound machine to the sonography program at West Kentucky Community and Technical College will help enhance the program and improve student success.

Rex Beckham, diagnostic imaging director for Lourdes Medical Pavilion, said donating the ultrasound machine was as a way to give back to WKCTC. The majority of our sonographers are graduates of WKCTC, and they are a valuable asset to our company, said Beckham. We reap the benefits of the well-trained sonographers the college provides, so we support this institution in every way we can.

WKCTC Sonography Program Coordinator Alice Robertson said the program is indebted to the local hospitals for their continual support. Lourdes has played a vital role in supporting the sonography program since it began in 1988, Robertson said. Donations like this allow our students to expand their knowledge in sonography and become more marketable to employers in the healthcare field.

The Siemens Acuson Aspen ultrasound machine provides students with the opportunity to enhance their scanning skills in abdomen, obstetrics and vascular sonography, said Nichole Toon, WKCTC sonography program clinical coordinator.

The Lourdes Medical Pavilion is a division of Lourdes Hospital. For more information about the WKCTC sonography program, contact Alice Robertson at 270-534-3487 or alice.robertson@kctcs.edu.
