WKCTC's Student of the Year

McCracken County resident Danita Fisher was recently named West Kentucky Community and Technical Colleges first Student Affairs Student of the Year. Fisher was one of eight previous Student of the Month winners nominated for the award. She was also the recipient of the first Student of the Month honor, which began in September 2010.

I was so excited to have been chosen as Student of the Month, but now being selected as Student of the Year - its so overwhelming for me, Fisher said. The other nominees have had major accomplishments in their time at WKCTC and I am honored to be counted in such a great group of individuals.

Selection of the Student of the Year is based on continuous academic performance, active participation in various student organizational activities and community service, while demonstrating a positive and encouraging attitude. Students had to maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.7 or higher and must have held and been successful in a significant leadership role on campus or within the community.

Danita is committed to her academic and personal goals and supports fellow students to reach the pinnacle of success, said Dr. Belinda Dalton-Russell, WKCTC student affairs vice president. Her passion and dedication for serving this college and the community is evident and makes her the perfect person to be our first Student of the Year recipient.

Fisher currently serves as a WKCTC student ambassador and Student Appeals Board member. She was also a student interview panelist for the recent Aspen Institute site visit, which was part of the process to name WKCTC one of the top five community colleges in the nation.

In 2010-2011, Fisher served as the former WKCTC Student Government Associationpresident, Kentucky Community and Technical College System
(KCTCS) Board of Regents student representative and a participant in Governor Beshears Education Forum at Northern Kentucky University.
