The Aspen Institute College Excellence Program aims to advance higher education practices, policies, and leadership that significantly improve student outcomes, especially for the growing population of low-income students and students of color on American campuses. For more information, visit Aspen Institute and follow CEP on LinkedIn ( and Twitter (@AspenHigherEd). The Aspen Prize hashtag is #AspenPrize.

The Aspen Prize, awarded every two years since 2011, recognizes outstanding institutions selected from a pool of more than 1,000 community colleges nationwide. With a singular focus on student success, the Aspen Prize honors institutions with outstanding achievement in six areas: teaching and learning, certificate and degree completion, transfer and bachelor's attainment, workforce success, equitable outcomes for students of color and students from low-income backgrounds, and leadership and culture.

West Kentucky Community and Technical College (WKCTC) has been a Top 10 Aspen Prize finalist five times in 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2021. WKCTC was honored as a Finalist with Distinction in 2011, 2015 and 2021.

WKCTC was formed in 2003 when two sister institutions – Paducah Community College and West Kentucky Technical College were consolidated. Today, the college serves more than 8,000 students annually and offers more than 200 degree, diploma and certificate options in more than 35 career and academic programs. The college was recently selected to receive a $15 million grant to support diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
