During the board’s final meeting, members were presented with commemorative awards honoring their dedication to student success, workforce development, and the continued growth of WKCTC.

The recognition comes following the passage of Kentucky House Bill 619, which includes several changes to the governance structure of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. Among those changes are the expansion of the KCTCS Board of Regents to 17 members representing Kentucky’s Supreme Court districts to provide broader statewide representation, the creation of regional advisory groups to ensure continued local business and industry input, and title changes for the 16 college presidents to chancellors, effective July 1.

“I welcome and support HB 619 and the ways it will help maximize efficiency across both WKCTC and KCTCS,” said Dr. Anton Reece, President of WKCTC. “I am deeply appreciative of the longstanding support and service of our Board of Directors. Their leadership and advocacy have made a lasting impact on this institution and the students we serve. I look forward to working with the future advisory group as we continue important work at WKCTC.”

Board Chair Barry MacDonald reflected on the impact and legacy of the board’s service to the college and region.

“With the passage of HB 619 dissolving the WKCTC Board of Directors, I would first like to thank all those who have served on this Board through the years,” said MacDonald. “Many individuals have generously given their time, talents, and leadership in support of the college and its mission.

While we are saddened to see the Board of Directors dissolved, I firmly believe the Board has played an important role in building relationships throughout the region and strengthening the college’s connection to the communities it serves.

Transitioning these responsibilities to an Advisory Council will represent a significant change. However, I am hopeful the new Council members will bring fresh perspectives and ideas that continue to benefit the college and support its future success.”

Throughout their service, board members played an important role in supporting college initiatives, strengthening community partnerships, and advocating for higher education opportunities across the region.

WKCTC extends its sincere appreciation to each board member for their years of dedicated service and lasting impact on the college.
