
LPN-RN Curriculum
Licensed Practical Nurses must seek admission to the nursing program by following the nursing admissions process. Once admitted to the program and completion of required general education courses, an LPN may receive nine (9) credit hours for NSG 101, Nursing Practice I, through advanced standing. To earn this credit they must meet one of the following:
- Graduate within three years of admission to the WKCTC nursing program and hold a current active unrestricted practical nurse license.
or
- Graduate more than three years prior to admission and verify current employment as an LPN and holds a current unrestricted practical nurse license. Current employment is defined as one year of full-time employment as an LPN within the last three years (2000 hours).
For an LPN to earn credit for NSG 219, Medical Surgical Nursing I, the second semester nursing course, they must successfully complete the four credit hour NSG 195, Transition to ADN. Upon completion of NSG 195, they may be admitted to NSG 229, Medical Surgical Nursing II and NSG 211, Maternal Newborn Nursing, which are third semester nursing courses.

#NSG 195 is taken by qualified LPNs only. Upon successful completion the student will be awarded 12 hours of advanced standing (NSG 101 nine (9) credit hours and NSG 219 three (3) credit hours).
Nursing credit hours are earned by both lecture and laboratory experiences. One hour of lecture instruction is 50 minutes and equates to one credit hour earned. One hour of laboratory instruction is 60 minutes. Three laboratory hours equates to one credit hour earned. Contact hours are defined as the total number of 50-60 minutes hours required for learning experiences.
Acceptance into the nursing program is based on a selective admissions process. Progression in the program is contingent upon achievement of a grade of āCā or better in each biological science, nursing and mathematics course and maintenance of a 2.0 cumulative grade point average or better.
