Your Privacy

As a dual credit student, you have the right to keep your college records private.

  • The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974, as amended, is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. FERPA gives parents certain rights regarding their children’s educational records, but those rights transfer to the student when he or she attends a college or university, including dual credit courses.
  • Generally, colleges need your written permission in order to release any information about your college record, including grades. If you want your parents or guardians to have access to information about your dual credit courses—including speaking to your college instructor about your progress—you’ll need to provide written permission. This is typically done when you enroll or through KCTCS Student Self-Serve.
  • We encourage you to be transparent with your parent/guardian and share your grades and attendance information.
