Selective Admission - Nursing

Applying to the Program

The nursing program admits a class every fall and spring. The application deadline for the fall semester is April 1 and the deadline for the spring semester is October 1. 

Enrollment in the Associate Degree Nursing program may be limited because of available health care facilities in the community, as well as faculty/student ratios required by the Kentucky Board of Nursing.

Traditional Nursing Option

  1. Attend a pre-admission conference.
  2. Apply for admission to West Kentucky Community & Technical College if not currently enrolled.
  3. Submit an official transcript of all previous college work.
  4. Traditional students must submit score results of the ACT or National League for Nursing (NLN) Preadmission Exam or Evolve Admission Assessment Exam.  Test scores must be dated/taken within the last four (4) years.

ADMISSIONS POINT SCALE

This scale is designed to objectively evaluate applicants for the Associate Degree Nursing Program.  Admission is based upon a point system.  Applicants with the highest total points will be admitted to the program. 

(ACT or NLN or A2 points + GPA/GED points + 5 points for completion of 12 graded (non-developmental) college hours)

***Students with less than a 2.0 GPA cannot be admitted to the program.

 **The CPP (Career Planning Program) gives an estimated ACT composite score range based on the Reading and Numerical Skills sections of the test.  The CPP score that will be used for evaluation on this criterion will be the score in the middle of the range (i.e. 26 would be the score used for a score range of 24-28 on the CPP).  Although this test is no longer administered, scores earned prior to July 1, 1999 will be considered.

  • A current ACT or NLN Pre-Admission RN Exam or A2 Admission Assessment Exam is strongly recommended.
  • The GPA is cumulative of all post-secondary colleges/universities attended (non-developmental college hours).  For students who have not earned 12 graded non-developmental at a regionally accredited institution, the high school GPA at the time of graduation, or the GED score will be used.
  • 5 additional points will be awarded to applicants who have 12 graded non-developmental college hours from a regionally accredited college.  The former West KY Vocational College became regionally accredited on January 1, 2004.  Courses completed prior to this date do not qualify for the additional 5 points earned.

In the event of a tie in the total points, the applicant's GPA will be rank ordered to determine admission to the ADN program.
