Board of Directors and PJC Foundation Board of Trustees Meeting

I. CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order by Chair Jay Simmons, beginning with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by introductions of joint board members. Those present were Secretary Gorman Bradley, Heather Coltharp, Lexie Harned, Summer Holland, Kenneth Hurt, Vice-Chair Barry McDonald, and Chair Jay Simmons. PJC Foundation Board of Trustees members attending were Chris Black, Mayor George Bray, Judge Craig Clymer, Anne Gwinn, Sid Hancock, Lorraine Schramke, Dr. William Wheeler, Ken Wheeler, John Williams, and Susan Ybarzabal.

Others in attendance: Dr. Renea Akin, Janett Blythe, Bridget Canter, Octavia Lawrence, Shay Nolan, Kevin O’Neill, Dr. Anton Reece, Geelyn Warren, President’s Cabinet; Melissa Allcock, Karen Brown, Mellisa Duncan, Kyle Fisher, Roberta Jackson, and Tammy Thompson staff.

II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Mr. Gorman Bradley moved, and Mr. Kenneth Hurt seconded the motion to approve the October 11, 2022, minutes. Motion passed.

III. CHAIR'S REMARKS

Chair Simmons expressed his appreciation for the meal provided by the culinary department and the experience of seeing our students in action.

In addition, Mr. Simmons noted the upcoming second anniversary of the MacKenzie Scott grant and the fall graduation ceremony. He encouraged everyone to be involved in the ceremony.

IV. PRESIDENT'S REMARKS

Dr. Reece thanked the boards for their continued comments of support. He noted the increase in fall enrollment overall headcount. Dr. Reece called on Tammy Thompson and Janett Blythe to report on upcoming campus events.

Tammy Thompson announced the fall graduation would be on Monday, December 12, 2022, at The Carson Center for Performing Arts beginning at 7:00 p.m. She asked the boards to let her know if they wished to wear regalia to the ceremony. She commented that 150 students have committed to participating in the ceremony but expects a final count of 190. The keynote speaker for graduation will be Sarah Ladd, a former student of WKCTC.

Janett Blythe invited the Board of Directors and Trustees to the annual holiday luncheon on December 8, 2022, at noon in the Haws Gymnasium.

In addition, Janett mentioned that WKCTC would be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2023. More information on activities will be forthcoming. Dr. Reece added that the Challenger Learning Center would also be celebrating 20 years

V. ADJOURNMENT

Mr. Simmons thanked Dr. Reece, the faculty, and the staff for their work at the college. At 1:11 p.m., he called for a motion to adjourn. A motion was made by Mr. Barry McDonald and seconded by Mr. Gorman Bradley to adjourn the WKCTC Board meeting, motion passed. Chair Simmons turned the meeting over to PJC Chair Chris Black, who conducted the PJC Board of Trustees meeting.
