October is Sustainability Month!
We have one tip for each day in October to help you be sustainable!
- Buy in Bulk to reduce packaging waste
- Shop at thrift stores
- Plant trees around your home
- Don’t use plastic straws
- Take the stairs, not the elevator
- Avoid one plane trip per year
- Compost food waste
- Bike or walk when possible
- Turn lights off when leaving a room
- Ditch plastic bottles
- Unplug chargers
- Carpool with friends
- Use cloth bags at the store
- Donate your old clothes
- Take shorter showers
- Always eat your leftovers
- Switch to LED light bulbs
- Hang clothes out to dry
- Eat less meat
- Buy locally grown food and products
- Recycle cell phones.
- Repair instead of replace. Reupholster furniture. Resole your shoes.
- Purchase non-toxic cleaning products.
- Inflate tires properly.
- Copy on both sides of the paper
- Turn down your water heater temperature.
- Use a toaster oven and use 50% less energy than conventional oven
- Change your furnace filters
- Use a draft snake, drafts can waste 5% to 30% of your energy use.
- Run ceiling fans in reverse – can cut your heating costs as much as 10%.
- Avoid speeding - every 5 mph you drive over 50 mph is like paying an additional $0.24 per gallon for gas.
